Two complementary forces usually come out in my work, one is a visual interest in strong graphical compositions and the other are more conceptual themes. The former is most visible in my still lifes and the latter in my photographs of people, but both a present in all of my work.
I like exploring themes of connection, local versus mass experience, the perceptions we have of people in mass media and social media the various facets of a person in my work. My most recent series of projects explore the aesthetics of fashion photography and celebrity portraiture and the relationship between their depersonalized photographs of people and our perception of a real person.
As well as my fine art work, I also work as a lifestyle photographer. My lifestyle work is very different from my fine art work in that the lifestyle work is very true to life, documentary and more emotional. Possibly as a reaction to that, my fine art work tends to be more conceptual and free from documentation. The two types of work complement each other and are able to better fulfill different parts of what I want to express as an artist. They also positively influence each other, even if very different.
