Hey Sister, 2018 Acrylic and cut paper on panel

Danielle Masters

Maplewood Mercantile
145 Dunnell Rd
Maplewood, NJ 07040

Danielle Masters is a multi-disciplinary artist living and working in South Orange, NJ. Masters work investigates line, color, and texture with a splash of jeu d’esprit. Masters is an emerging artist that has exhibited with The Dodge Foundation and various other locations in New Jersey.

Her paintings begin with geometric designs and evolve with the use of paper cutouts. The idea of using cutouts was originally inspired by Matisse. This gave Masters a way to add texture and depth to painting in a minimalist approach while allowing you to see two different compositions based on proximity.

The use of collage in her paintings helped fuel her progression to more three dimensional work. The first series of sculptures were originally inspired by Yoga poses. They evoke the concurrent sense of movement and calm one feels in performing classic asanas.

The fiber based work is another extension of her paintings bringing comfort to the viewer in a cathartic sense while investigating color and form.

You can find her work on view at the Maplewood Mercantile during the Studio Tour.
