Working in mixed media allows me to make use of the diversity of materials available. I am a collector. If a found object inspires me, I stuff it in my bag and find its place on my drawing table. Among the items in my inspiration corner are scraps of cloth, twigs, rusted bolts and washers, wrappers from a morning's tea, several oatmeal tins rescued from their fate in the recycling bin, and photos from treks and travels near and far.
Color and texture are at the heart of my work. And, because of my affinity to the earth, there will most likely be a botanic reference within each piece. I let the materials guide me, helping me to focus on the creative process, beyond the intellect.
It is a joy when others are able to see and feel the spirit within a piece. In the end it is about communicating what is within through the visual. Beyond my meaning-making, I want viewer to find meaning of their own.
