Judy Targan’s current work explores the relationship between the basic elements of nature: land/sea/sky and geometric shapes. Her paintings are done in oil on wood in various dimensional configurations.
Judy’s palette is influenced by several trips to India as well as her love of Indian miniature paintings. She also finds inspiration in early American folk art and mid 20th century “pattern and decoration”.
For many years, Judy made limited edition relief prints with inkless intaglio. Currently she paints stylized landscapes using oil on wood in various dimensional configurations.
Judy has exhibited widely in both solo and group exhibitions and is represented in museum, corporate and private collections. Her work includes numerous commissions and tribute cards for nonprofit organizations, including a boxed set of cards for UNICEF.
She is listed in Who’s Who in American Art and Who’s Who in American Women. For more than 20 years Judy has been an active docent at the Newark Museum. She also serves on the visiting committee of the Smith College Museum of Art.
The artist is a graduate of Smith College and paints in her studio in South Orange, New Jersey.
