A Little Bit About Me

Born on October 8, 1967, in London, England, Nigel Freeman grew up in San Antonio, Texas. He was introduced to the rich culture of painting in Mexico as his family made frequent trips to San Miguel de Allende during his youth. He returned to San Miguel as a landscape painter in 1991 after receiving his M.F.A. degree in painting from Columbia University in New York. Nigel went on to study traditional painting techniques and printmaking at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts in Paris as an artist in residence at the Fondation des Etats-Unis from 1994-1996.

Nigel's travels have formed a fascination with colorful interpretations of the exotic—over the past 10 years, he has interpreted various genres of history, still life and landscape painting. He has had solo exhibitions of his painting in New York, London, Paris, and San Antonio. He and his family live in Maplewood, NJ where he enjoys painting in his studio and en plein aire. He frequently visits San Miguel de Allende on painting trips.
